La composizione, leggermente decentrata verso sinistra, è raccolta come nelle composizioni morandiane, ma s’ispira anche a Caravaggio e a Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin. A livello cromatico, il fiore appassito verde - che gioca col rosso dello sfondo – ha un contorno bianco dato dall’assenza di pittura; questo aspetto dona, in qualche modo, elettricità e vita al fiore appassito. C’è infatti un’evidente dicotomia tra il verde solitamente associato a una vegetazione rigogliosa e il fiore senza vita. Il panneggio nero in altro a destra, invece, prende spunto dalla "Morte della Vergine" di Caravaggio, ma invertita nella posizione del panneggio. Quest’ultimo può rappresentare uno squarcio nello spazio-tempo, che dona un’ambiguità all’immagine aumentandone la drammaticità. Nell’opera sono quasi assenti le ombre, nonostante le luci siano ben marcate sulla bottiglia.

The composition, slightly off-centre to the left, is collected as in Morandi's compositions, but is also inspired by Caravaggio and Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin. In terms of colour, the green withered flower - which plays with the red of the background - has a white outline given by the absence of paint; this aspect somehow gives the withered flower electricity and life. There is in fact a clear dichotomy between the green usually associated with lush vegetation and the lifeless flower. The black drapery on the far right, on the other hand, takes its cue from Caravaggio's "Death of the Virgin", but reversed in the position of the drapery. The latter may represent a gash in space-time, which lends an ambiguity to the image and increases its drama. Shadows are almost absent in the work, although the lights are well marked on the bottle.
