L’opera riprende e trasfigura i particolari delle ninfee di Monet, proponendo pennellate libere, cariche, materiche e liquide: la parte di lago dell’opera di Prevosto mostra brandelli di corpi senza vita che galleggiano come delle ninfee.
La figura centrale, con due teste, in mezzo al tripudio di sangue, enfatizza le fasce muscolari e esplicita con efficacia la morte attraverso l’assenza di sangue, svuotato dal corpo della vittima.
Il fondo grigio, all’apparenza spento e calmo, è frutto di una particolare tecnica dell’artista: Prevosto ha usato gli scarti grigiastri del colore, presenti sul fondo dei barattoli, usati per la pulitura dei pennelli. Questo processo artistico porta un risultato significativo: la sporcizia e l’impurità del lago rappresentato non è solo allegorica, ma reale.

The artwork captures and transfigures the details of Monet’s water lilies, proposing free, loaded, textured, and liquid brushstrokes: the lake portion of Prevosto’s work displays shreds of lifeless bodies floating like water lilies.
The central figure, with two heads amidst the celebration of blood, emphasizes muscular bands and efficiently expresses death through the absence of blood, draining out the body of the victim.
The seemingly dull and calm gray background is the result of a particular artist’s technique: Prevosto used grayish scraps of color found at the bottom of jars, used for cleaning brushes. This artistic process brings to a significant result: the dirt and impurity of the depicted lake are not just allegorical, but real.
