Testo di Luca Deias (ITA) Prevosto sceglie come soggetto Donald Trump, qui ritratto durante il discorso con cui a inizio 2026 annunciò l'intervento militare contro l'Iran. L'interesse dell'artista non risiede nella cronaca dell'evento quanto nel valore simbolico che esso assume: attraverso la pittura trasforma un'immagine mediatica in un'allegoria del potere, della guerra e della comunicazione politica. A differenza di altre rappresentazioni della serie dei "Volti della guerra" il volto di Trump non viene trasformato in una figura mostruosa. L'artista sceglie invece di mantenerlo riconoscibile, pur sottoponendolo alla consueta deformazione che attraversa tutta la sua ricerca. Prevosto, con le sue tipiche deformazioni, non intende demonizzare il soggetto, bensì sottolineare come le decisioni più drammatiche della storia siano compiute da uomini reali, perfettamente identificabili. Il messaggio è tristemente chiaro: l'orrore non appartiene a creature fantastiche, bensì alla normalità dell'essere umano che detiene un potere di tale portata tra le mani. Il simbolismo dell'opera si concentra soprattutto sugli elementi che circondano la figura. Sul cappellino presidenziale la sigla "USA" viene alterata trasformando la “S” nel simbolo del dollaro, esplicitando la centralità degli interessi economici. Alle spalle del presidente, la bandiera americana appare lacerata e ricucita con banconote, immagine che suggerisce come il denaro diventi il mezzo attraverso cui si tenta di riparare una nazione ferita. Il rattoppo, tuttavia, non restituisce integrità al vessillo, rendendo ancora più evidente la sua fragilità e alludendo a una politica nella quale il potere economico prevale sull'interesse collettivo. Anche il colore assume un preciso valore espressivo. Il blu, derivato dall'ambientazione del discorso ufficiale, avvolge la scena in un'atmosfera fredda e instabile, mentre il rosso della bandiera invade la composizione con una presenza quasi aggressiva, richiamando simultaneamente il patriottismo, il sangue e il conflitto. La materia pittorica, costruita attraverso pennellate dense e deformanti, contribuisce a rendere instabile ogni elemento dell'immagine, come se anche i simboli nazionali fossero soggetti a una continua alterazione. "Donald Trump dichiara guerra all'Iran" assurge a emblema di una comunicazione mutevole, capace non solo di modificare continuamente il proprio racconto secondo le esigenze del momento, ma anche di alterare la narrazione pubblica aumentando sempre più lo scarto tra i fatti reali e la loro rappresentazione. |
Text by Luca Deias (ENG) Prevosto chooses Donald Trump as his subject, depicted here during the speech in which, in early 2026, he announced military action against Iran. The artist’s interest lies not so much in chronicling the event as in the symbolic significance it takes on: through his painting, he transforms a media image into an allegory of power, war and political communication. Unlike other depictions in the "Faces of War" series, Trump’s face is not transformed into a monstrous figure. Instead, the artist chooses to keep it recognisable, whilst subjecting it to the characteristic distortion that runs through his entire body of work. With his characteristic distortions, Prevosto does not seek to demonise his subject, but rather to emphasise how the most dramatic decisions in history are made by real, perfectly identifiable men. The message is sadly clear: horror does not belong to fantastical creatures, but to the ordinary human being who holds such immense power in their hands. The symbolism of the work focuses primarily on the elements surrounding the figure. On the presidential cap, the initials "USA" have been altered by transforming the ‘S’ into the dollar sign, highlighting the centrality of economic interests. Behind the president, the American flag appears torn and patched up with banknotes, an image suggesting that money has become the means by which attempts are made to mend a wounded nation. The patch, however, does not restore the flag’s integrity, making its fragility all the more evident and alluding to a political system in which economic power prevails over the collective interest. Colour, too, takes on a specific expressive significance. The blue, derived from the setting of the official discourse, envelops the scene in a cold and unstable atmosphere, whilst the red of the flag invades the composition with an almost aggressive presence, evoking patriotism, blood and conflict all at once. The painterly texture, created through dense, distorting brushstrokes, helps to render every element of the image unstable, as if even national symbols were subject to constant alteration. ‘Donald Trump Declares War on Iran’ stands as an emblem of a shifting discourse, capable not only of continually adapting its own narrative to the demands of the moment, but also of altering the public narrative by ever-widening the gap between actual facts and their representation. |
