Oil on canvas, 70 x 50 cm, 2025. Available.

In this work, Prevosto introduces the theme of distortion as a tool for transforming identity and perception. The painting takes its cue from the same iconographic material as the previous  “Ligabue patologico” (Pathological Ligabue) - referring to the film in which Antonio Ligabue imitated animals on the banks of the Po while looking at himself in the mirror - but develops a further vision: not what we see from the outside, but what Ligabue believes he sees reflected.
The title “Tigrabue” comes from the fusion between man and animal: Prevosto imagines the Emilian artist imitating a tiger, observing himself in the mirror in an attempt to recognise a transformation within himself. In this sense, the viewer does not see a realistic portrait, but enters Ligabue's mental space: what appears on the canvas is his inner perception, the reflection he imagines he is restoring. The face lengthens, the profile deforms, the features hybridise, the skin takes on colours and spots reminiscent of a feline coat, while the canines grow like fangs ready to emerge. The reference to Ligabue's famous painted tigers reinforces a tension towards metamorphosis, suggesting a desire to belong to the animal world and a difficulty in fully recognising oneself as human.
In the work, the brushstrokes are textured and worm-like, vibrant and in constant motion. In terms of colour, there is a partial adherence to reality: the coat recalls shades found in archive footage, while the face is constructed using colours that directly refer to the tiger's coat.
